Invibio’s Dr. John Devine to Speak at Implants 2006
2006-05-24Dr. Devine to Speak on the Role of Advanced Biomaterials in the Development of Motion Preservation, Bioactive and Bioenhancing Medical Implants
Greenville, S.C.(May 24, 2006) - Invibio®, a leading provider of biomaterial solutions to the medical device market, today announced that Dr. John Devine, the company's senior product development scientist, will be a speaker at "Implants 2006." Dr. Devine will address:
- The development and utilization of new biomaterials to meet the requirements of a rapidly advancing medical implant market
- How PEEK-OPTIMA® polymer is currently used in the development of medical devices and how the material will be leveraged to meet tomorrow's application needs
- The potential for PEEK-OPTIMA polymer-based materials in tribology applications such as motion preserving spinal implants
Dr. Devine will also discuss the use of biomaterials in the development of bioactive medical implants, those implants that facilitate tissue and bone re-growth. This portion of the presentation will focus on simple implant modifications through the use of additives and coatings, to more complex modifications such as the covalent grafting of peptides and proteins to the surface of structural reinforcing implants.
"Implants 2006," the second International Orthopaedic Implants and Biomaterial Congress & Exhibition, will be held June 21st and 22nd in Paris. The conference attracts more than 200 participants from every orthopaedic implants and biomaterials market.
Dr. Devine holds a doctorate in the field of organic polymer synthesis and structure property relationships from the University of St. Andrews and a degree in chemistry from the University of Glasgow, both in the United Kingdom.
